The Fighting for Democracy in the Islamic World international Conference is meant to collect the legacy of the Prague Conference held on June 2007 on Democracy& Security. That Conference promoted by the Prague Security Studies Institute, the Adelson Institute-Shalem Center and the FAES Foundation saw a wide presence of dissidents attending from all over the nations where freedom is persecuted and imprisoned by cruel dictatorships.
That Conference challenged the engagement of the west in helping the democracy fighters that brought to us there a hint of hope and also a sense of urgency and sometimes of delusion about the help of western countries.
Our Conference of Rome, organized by the following Foundations: Magna Carta, Farefuturo, Craxi and the Appuntamento a Gerusalemme Association, plus the Adelson Institute-Shalem Center, will follow up and try to march forward in these three directions: More awareness of the dissidents experience; more understanding of the relationship between freedom and security in the world; tougher surveillance of what the West can do to help
the dissidents in their fight.
We believe deeply that in the muslim world every citizen has the right to freedom and democracy, that there is space and strength for a growing civil society, that its blossoming could help us more than we help them, but we want to try to improve the western effort.
We want to hear from the champion of freedom and democracy that pay with their own soul and body what can we do for them, and look for answers.
An online registration is requested in order to participate at the conference.
